Collect Call Telephone Repair - A recent scam being perpetrated in Rhode Island, and elsewhere, is one where the target is usually a business. The target receives an automated collect call and when the target is supposed to hear the name of the person making the collect call, he hears "This is Nynex, there will be no charge."

If you receive and accept this call, you will be told by the caller that the caller is working for Nynex and that other businesses have been complaining that they are receiving some of your calls by mistake. The caller goes on to say that the you should conference him into a free line so he can "get into the fiber optics," or some other such nonsense. If you do this, the caller will use the free line to make long distance calls for himself and his fellow inmates. This guy is no Nynex employee, he is a guest of some penal institution who is making free long distance calls on your outgoing line and charging the incoming call to you collect!
